Rivers Leasing’s Business Operations Manager, Rishi Shah, is a central figure in our team. Having joined in the early days of the company, one of his main responsibilities is the front line underwriting of lease and loan proposals. Here he talks about what sets Rivers Leasing apart as a financier and as a place to work…
How would you describe your role at Rivers Leasing?
I look after the daily operations of business at Rivers Leasing, which includes underwriting deals for finance, looking after in term and end of lease options with our customers and managing the payout and agreement activation process. Part of my job is also to develop and maintain relationships with our wide panel of brokers, introducers, vendors and customers. This is central to the company and the way it works - balancing the needs of all stakeholders.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
Each deal is different in asset finance. We are a story book lender and there is no ‘one size fits all’ approach to how we lend, which means that every day is different and you get involved with each client’s business story.

I manage and work with a team of really passionate individuals where everyone is very professional in their approach to work; it’s great to work with such like-minded people.
What do you think sets Rivers Leasing apart from other asset financiers?
As I said before, I think it’s our willingness to look at a client’s whole story. In order to see if we can support them in their lease or loan application. While we are dedicated to good corporate governance, the rules we apply to our processes are not limited to yes or no answers. When it comes to seeing if we can offer finance to a customer, we take a number of factors, which include but are not limited to credit worthiness, affordability, asset class and security, into account and try to reach a solution that works for everyone.
The other thing that sets us apart is the speed with which we are able to work and turnaround a client’s financing application. We turn deals around and get invoices paid out within 24 hours of having all the information, and that is something we take great pride in. Our core values are efficiency, flexibility, simplicity and quality, providing a fast service where credit decisions are made quickly and with minimal fuss.
I also can’t stress the value that our relationships have to us - with brokers and clients. We like to offer a personal service; our introducers know they have direct access to the underwriting team and that we would be more than happy to discuss a deal before it’s proposed to see if it’s something we can help with. I think having that ability to speak directly and have proper discussions is really invaluable in our work.
